Short Films / Michael Palin — The 30 Years Tour
Script / Direction / Animation Production

While we sit on our comfy couches sipping our tea with two sugars Michael Palin is out there thinking about the next project to entertain us. His collection of work and personal memories are noted in his highly informative diaries printed over the years covering 1969 - 1998. Throughout his years in Monty Python, his many successful film appearances, the writing of his novels and his travels to all corners of the globe, there was one constant in Michael’s life: the daily ritual of writing in his diary.

Our brief began with a cup of tea and chat with Michael himself. How is it possible to touch on 30 years of stories in a 3min film? He left this up to us, that was how our briefing went.

Our Solution was to create a montage of stories that all came together and would intrigue the audience in the build up to his introduction on stage. The film would be played at the beginning of his ‘The 30 Years tour’ and needed to illustrate his personality and whimsical approach to life. Michael opened our eyes to so many parts of the world in his travel series and made us laugh with his comic timing. We began with research, research and research to see what was available from where. The challenge was then to bring it all together and keep it rolling along at a pace for 3min.

Our Outcome was enjoyed in theatres and halls across England on Michael Palin’s 'The 30 Years Tour’. If you got to see the tour it was a wonderful insight into his memories and stories.
