Our brief was to enhance and support the delivery of the arts and associated curriculum areas in Victorian government schools. Providing opportunities for both students and teachers to progress in their learning in the Arts by building confidence, raising awareness and assisting with school wide planning to deliver a quality Arts education program.as to explain what happened in the GFC of 2008 and how we should be learning from the mistakes of the past. The target audience being the person who buys the newspaper but throws away the money section.

Our Solution was the realisation of a visual arts program called ‘Faces Worth Protecting’. We engaged Primary School children from Prep to Grade 6 in a series of artistic workshops over two school terms. Both the children and teachers were able to discover and connect with new methods of artistic expression, leading to a series of artworks that promoted care for each other, the environment, and in particular Australia’s unique endangered species

Our Outcome

An exhibition of the children’s artwork, hosted as part of the new art room launch.

A poster that showcased the children’s artwork of Australia’s endangered fauna. All proceeds raised from the poster sale were donated to the local wildlife park, helping to educate the children on how their art can create awareness and be a good change in the world.

Christmas card packs featuring the kids endangered flora
designs were professionally printed so that they could give these to friends and family.

At the Begonia Festival in March 2023 about 1000 kids aged 4 to 12 explored six powers and drew and wrote about which power resonated with them.

The Kid Powers included Big Heart Power, Green Power, Culture Power, Think Power and Voice Power. These powers align with the six goals of our Municipal Early Years Plan. Our children had a lot to say about how important community is to them and they demonstrated that they think deeply about the world.
